Our Practice has been established in Washington since 1946 and has been in the present building since 2003. In 2004 we became a training practice for both GP Registrars and Medical Students. Occasionally you may be asked if a GP Registrar or student can attend your consultation with the doctor. Your permission will always be sought and you are entitled to decline, however this forms an essential part of the training of young doctors and we would ask your cooperation wherever possible. You are under no obligation to cooperate.
REGISTERING WITH THE PRACTICE
To register with the practice you must live within the practice boundary. You are registered with the practice, rather than with an individual GP and may see any of the doctors. You are able to express a preference of practitioner and whilst the practice will try to comply, it might not always be possible, in which case we will explain why.
CONFIDENTIALITY AND DATA PROTECTION
We hold records on computer as well as normal written records. This practice is registered under the Data Protection Act and all details held are kept secure by multiple password levels. Confidential information from your medical records will only be released to a third party (e.g. solicitors, insurance companies etc) with your consent.

The Practice actively promotes a policy of Zero Tolerance of any form of intimidation or abusive behaviour from patients towards any member of the practice team. Any patients who do not adhere to our Zero Tolerance Policy will be removed from our list of patients. If you are dissatisfied with the service you receive we have a patients complaints procedure leaflet in place. Please ask reception for a copy.
PRACTICE AREA – our practice area covers the whole of Washington. In addition we accept patients from Springwell Village. If you move outside these areas, it will probably be necessary to change to another practice, but if in doubt, please discuss with reception team.
CAR PARKING- There is a car park at the Health Centre but space is limited and frequently congested. Further parking spaces are available behind the shopping centre adjacent to the bus station and using this involves a walk of only some 50 yards. YOU MUST NOT PARK ON YELLOW LINES – THIS RESTRICTS THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC.
ACCESS FOR DISABLED – The main entrance is easily accessible for the disabled and there are special toilet facilities. Our staff are always willing to give any extra help when needed. Just let the reception team know if you need help in any way.
NON-NHS SERVICES – some patients will ask the practice/GP to carry out services that do not come under the Practice’s NHS Contract and are classed as Non-NHS services. This work will incorporate a fee that is payable by the patient. The service is delivered at the discretion of all individual GPs. Please ask our reception for the fees associated with these services. Our fees have been revised on the 1st April 2018.
